Beginning Sunday, Sept. 15, and running through Sept. 21, National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is more than just a time to say "thank you." It's a moment to reflect on the essential role of over 3.5 million professional drivers in keeping America's economy moving. In 1988, former American Trucking Association chairman Don Bowman pioneered this event to shine a spotlight on truck drivers' contributions, ensuring they get the recognition they deserve for fueling our economy and sustaining our way of life.
Key Facts & Figures
- The trucking industry generates $900 billion in annual revenue.
- Trucking accounts for 70 percent of the total annual freight moved in the U.S.
- Truck drivers safely transport over 11 billion tons of goods each year.
- 80 percent of U.S. communities depend exclusively on trucks to deliver goods.
- A typical professional driver logs more than 100,000 miles per year.
This year, the American Trucking Association has chosen the theme "From Coast to Coast: Celebrating Truck Drivers," highlighting the billions of miles logged by these professionals as they crisscross the country, delivering goods safely and efficiently every day. At ITS Logistics, we recognize that our drivers are not just part of the supply chain—they are the very foundation of it. That's why we go above and beyond to ensure they feel valued on and off the road.
Our interconnected and interdependent global supply chain relies heavily on these professionals to move freight from node to node and keep global commerce running smoothly.
How ITS Prepares Professional Truck Drivers for a Road to Success
Because they are a critical asset to the fabric of ITS, the morale and safety of our drivers are a top priority. Preparing new drivers for real-world challenges is tough—but not anymore! Our truck driving simulator recreates situations like blown tires, engine failure, and harsh weather conditions while identifying driver risks through safety metrics. We coach drivers through scenarios such as following distance, city and mountain driving, high wind, tight turns, and more."

ITS Logistics Appreciate Our Drivers
We host various events throughout the year to show appreciation for our drivers and employees, including annual tailgate parties and cookouts.
To kick off 2024's Driver Appreciation Week, we'll serve coffee and donuts to our drivers to start the week. We'll also hand out gift bags filled with treats from local vendors, including Kimmie Candy and Stellar Snacks, to our drivers and top carrier partners, and lunches sponsored by community partners. The week will close with a breakfast cookout to celebrate our drivers, which will be cooked for them by other ITS team members.
Take a Moment to Say "Thank You"
