Halloween at Pitts Orthodontics in Caughlin Ranch is always a festive occasion.  But it’s what they do after the holiday that really makes a difference.

“We do an awesome thing for Halloween.” said Dr. Arnold Pitts. “We’ve teamed up with the community and ITS Logistics and a program called Operation Gratitude. What we do is buy back candy from the community at a dollar a pound, and then ITS Logistics generously ships it back to Operation Gratitude, and they ship out care packages to troops all over the world.”

This is the seventh year Pitts Orthodontics has been involved in the project.

“Last year we bought back 1,700 pounds of candy,” Pitts said. “It’s a fantastic way, I think, for the community to get involved with helping our troops and a great way to reduce having a few cavities here and there. We want healthy smiles and we want happy troops so this is a great thing to do.”

Trick-or-Treaters have been generous with their Halloween earnings.

“It’s amazing,” Pitts said. “I don’t know if they sell all their candy, but they definitely sell all the stuff they don’t like, and they feel really good about giving back to the community and our troops.”

You can bring  wrapped candy to the Pitts Orthodontics office located at 4786 Caughlin Parkway, #305 in Reno next Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m to 5 p.m and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
